this show's run was like watching an olimpiad gymnast do jump swirls hand tosses and all sorta cool manuvers on the parallel bars while everyone goes woooaw nice, AMAZING! the commentators say she's braking all sorta's of record, now she just need to dismount the apparatus and by simply sticking the landing, she will get the most gold medals in history...THEN GYMNAST JUMPS OFF CRASHES INTO HER FACE ROLLS OF THE MAD AND LANDS PRONE ASS UP IN THE MOST DISGRAFULL WAY POSIBLE. ENDING LIKE ONE OF THOSE FALLING FAMILY GUY CHARACTERS.SHAME.

The theme of this story isn't the old cliche "people were the monsters all along". The theme of the story was that all of humanity's political triflings meant nothing because the apocalypse was coming with Winter. Game of Thrones betrayed it's own theme and anybody who thinks the show returning to politics is in the spirit of itself isn't thinking about it critically.

No one has actually explored this angle . I feel Danny knew Tyrion wanted Cersie to live and that the strategy not to kill everyone was a ploy to get Cersie to surrender the throne and escape. Danny agreed because she knew she needed all the armies help to win so she just pretended that she would show mercy. Remember the dragons are her children and this army killed her child so she had no empathy for this kingdom and wanted it to burn no matter who was inside.

D&D said two seasons ago that Dany was not her father and she one of the good guys. All of sudden she is? D&D rush this season and it shows. The actors tried to warn us. It's a shame.

With regards to the northern army carrying on fighting, I think this has more to do with the unsullied and the dothraki pushing in with the fight (and the north men too) forcing the Lannister’s army to pick their weapons back up and fight back... so whether they wanted to or not the northern army were fighting back then. We saw innocents killed by Dothraki, caught in the middle of fighting and burnt by the dragon... but only when the north man attempted to rape that woman did we see one of the northern army cross a line really.

I think this series is gonna have a St. Elsewhere ending. It'll be a boy playing war with his action figures and his parents calling him downstairs for dinner.

The thing is, the reason people tought some things would happen is because the show was leading in that direction. When you spend all seasons building the WW to be the big baddies, from literally the first 5 minutes of the show, when characters like Jon that keep saying nothing else matter, that it is the big war... then that's logically what people are going to think! That's not the viewers' fault if they do a 180 and make them super lame villain with one of the most anticlimatic ending I've ever seen. When you spend 8 season with Jon's arc revolving aroung the Night King, when a prophecy about the one who's going to end the long night fits with him more than anyone (in the book it's almost 100% him because it's said to be a Targaryen that will lead men and who will yield a flaming sword), then people are going to expect him to be invloved with the whole thing. Not some fanservice girl power moment with a character that had nothing to do with that storyline, all because they wanted to subvert expectactions! The problem is that they were not consistant with the themes or the characters.
People make up excuses after excuses, but let's be real: the writing massively sucks!

No idea if you guys even read the comments but I'm gonna answer some of the things Cory said here.

Nr1. Sure some fans are mad because it didn't play out like they expected. Most people are mad because the story was rushed, the turn of Deanery's didn't feel natural - the common response is that it's been foreshadowed for a long while that she might turn heel and the reply to that is that foreshadowing is not character development. Most people I've spoken to who are critical about the show are simply angry because the progression from Danny being ruthless to Danny being pure evil wasn't well crafted. I and many others have no problem with Daenerys being ruthless, this is not new for her character. What's new is losing track of her goals and choosing to murder innocent woman and children rather then finishing the job when she's on the cusp of victory. This was not well explained at all and made it feel like someone flipped a switch in her head and she became a different character. You need to build up to murdering children, you don't just jump into the deep end. This is exactly what made Anakin's turn such a controversy in the prequel movies.

Nr2. I fundamentally disagree on the NK and The Others. You think this episode showed something that was worse then what the white walkers represented? Daenerys burned a couple hundred thousand people, so what? The Others existed for one goal and one goal only - the complete and utter extinction of the human race. Nothing ANYONE does will rival that, no torture, no taking of innocent lifes, no dictatorship, no nothing. You want to argue that it's interesting because it shows Humanity is worse, but no outcome is worse then the extinction of our race.

Even so we can disregard that point because the order in which these events happened on the show is NOT the issue. Once again the issue is the terrible writing, the walking back of character arcs, characters behaving like different people, characters being in places and doing things they shouldn't be simply because they need to serve the story. Dumb and Dumber said in the after-show using Arya to kill the NK made sense to them because we weren't thinking about where she was at that moment, meaning they only choose Arya for shock value. They retroactively retconned things (Melisandra's line about eyes, Beric Dondarrion's deaths, Arya's line about sticking him with the pointy end, the scene with throwing knifes where she talks about the different faces of death was added at last minute to try to add some last minute foreshadowing). And even if they choose Arya to do the NK several years ago which I don't believe for a second and goes against what D&D say themselves after the episode once again the issue isn't that Arya kills the Night King, the issue is that her story has not been about the NK it has been about her list and getting back at the people who hurt her family. Jon's ENTIRE 7 season arc has been about The Others, he has been on this path for the entire show and they decide to not include him in the NK's final defeat because they wanted to subvert your expectations. Well they could have done that while making it a team effort between Arya and Jon. Changing the story simply because we see it coming is moronic because it destroys all the ground work you've laid before hand. If you set up Jon's arc to be about the NK and The Others he should have a hand in ending that arc.

                                                  2. Yes what Danny did executing Sams father and brother was horrific and ruthless.

So was what Jon Snow did when he ordered Olly hanged. Olly was just a kid in the company of adults who were pressuring him to take a side and Jon had him hanged. Does that mean Jon is mad?

In the opening episode Ned Stark executed the scout trying to warn them about the whites because he abandoned his post and left his comrades behind. That scout probably did the right thing trying to warn people of the threat, and Ned chopped his head off. Is Ned mad?

Arya murdered Walder Frey's children, chopped them into peices and made a stew which she had Walder Frey eat. She deliberately waits with killing him until after he knows what she's done and what he just put in his mouth. Is Aarya mad? Is Arya gonna start murdering innocent woman and children?

Being ruthless is not the same as being evil. The reason Thanos is such a great villain is because from his perspective he is the hero, he doesn't kill when he doesn't have to, he doesn't want power to dominate others - he has a goal which he thinks will be positive for all life in the galaxy and he's willing to be ruthless to achieve that goal because in the end he thinks what he does will be a net positive for the universe. We all see ourselves as the heroes of our own stories. Except Danny, Danny kills innocent woman and children because... She's mad? Nah the show did not earn that, we did not see her go mad we saw her become desperate. We didn't see her break her moral codes established early in the series when she falls down crying at the mere thought of her dragons having killed a innocent child, at that point in the story she locks her dragons away even though she doesn't know for sure that's what happened because deep down while Danny is ruthless to her enemies, those who stand in her way of creating a better world, she is also kind and cares for people.

"Oh but a lotta people been sidetracked cus she in love". That was the dumbest shit I ever heard anyone say in response to this criticism. Can't take you seriously lol. Okay, if that's true those people are morons. Great argument Cory.

NO, Danny has not ONCE been shown to be evil. Show me a SINGLE example of Danny taking pleasure in murdering a innocent person who didn't deserve it or stand in her way. Show me a single time she kills just for the sake of killing, show me her enjoying murdering someone for no reason. You can't, there's not a SINGLE example of this. God this is such a stupid argument and frankly only someone who hasn't been paying attention could ever make it. Go back and watch the first few seasons again.

I gotta stop the video there, I was intending to go further but some of the crap you say is just so far from reality I can't take you seriously. I mean it's totally okay to be a casual fan of a series and enjoy it for dumb fun and the spectacle while not carrying about the story, but as a critic I expect you to have better grasp of the material you're criticizing than this. Very disappointing.

Like I’ve told people if this was built up as Dany actually playing both sides this whole time as a slow burn then yea I think most people would of loved this heel turn. Instead they have constantly shown her as yea a stern fierce queen who has done some wild shit yet still these were people who did her wrong. still they have also shown her as somebody who wants to do right by the people. John has made so many mistakes and ultimately all of this is because of him. Now just because Dany didn’t get the D, she goes full blown villain. Yea Na, it was rushed lazy writing and this is why if the series was to end they had the whole season before to build this heel turn but they didn’t do it.

This is supported by D&D rushing everything this season -- Her concern that people don't love her without getting to know her is rushed (2 episodes). The Long Night was rushed (1 episode). Ultimately her turn from ruthless to pure insanity was rushed.

How anyone is surprised by any of this is baffling. I'd say go read the book but George R R Martin lost his walking cane and hasn't finished it yet

It was perfectly logical fir him to kill those people. 1) he's never been that fond of them, one of them killed his girl and he's totally loyal to Dany. Once she started killing everyone he followed his queen. Nothing in his past suggest cast nothing in his past suggest that he cast nothing in his past suggest that he had become so righteous that he would not do whatever she told him to no matter how ruthless.
