eric, for you to say that it was character assassination of dany shows you had to be blind to all the warnings and foreshadowing since early in the show. looking back it will all make sense.

The Night King and Cersei were always Red Herrings. That is why they were disposed of so unceremoniously. The final boss was always Danearys and she was hidden in plain view. GRM fooled everyone.

What are these people talking about. Dani was narcissistic, capricious and arrogant from the very start. This is perfectly in keeping with her character, once she felt jilted. Watch out for narcissistic, jilted women with dragons.

Jaime still loving Cersein doesn't mean he didn't change. What did he do for that love in season 1? Threw a child out of a tower window. What did he do for that love in 8.5? Risked his life to save his unborn baby. There is a BIG difference in the inner workings of his motivations.

Daenerys was violating the Geneva Convention years ago, and she was insulted that the Meereen people didn't praise her for executing one of their own (go watch the scene were she kills the young man who murdered the Son of the Harpy; when they started hissing at her, she was so sure she was right that her facial expression is like they slapped her in the face). This was always who she was going to be without people directing her away from her most terrible impulses. Hell, she got talked out of burning THREE count em THREE cities to the ground in season 6 and 7 (Yunkai, Astapor, and King's Landing... of course that last one didn't age well).

Daenerys isn't really mad. She's just an egomaniac with a messiah complex who realizes that she won't be able to rule without fear on her side. And also her best friends all got killed.

Jaime, Sandor, Daenerys all had wonderfully tragic and ironic endings. People who hate those endings just simply suck.

Well said Eric 👏🏽 and I agree too with Calvin in regards to Dany. Her story arc is so rushed and doesn’t make sense for the character they built her up to be. There’s a lot of little points missing before we ge to her stages.

Well, that was enough for me. I watched the first half of episode 6 and don't even care what happens next. World architects only ever come around once every thousand years. Danny would have and could have been the architect of a whole new world... and a much better world at that, certainly as far as the oppressed and destitute would have been concerned. Jon didn't care or want to know how beautiful that world could have been or how peaceful it's creation. Because building it might or might not have involved killing a few evil people, he decided it better to slaughter the architect and her new world, sentencing all the oppressed souls in the world to remain in their chains for another thousand years, merely so he could ensure that the world wouldn't be changed at all. I hope Arya goes to Bravos to finish her training because in my book that makes Jon Snow more evil than any of the Lanisters, Boltons or any other villians...even more evil that Dan and Dave and the inhabitants of King's Landing... and he will have brought to his house a curse far worse than a thousand White Walkers.
Alas I know from experience that this world treats it's architects only slightly better than Westerous but the next time I return to that make believe kingdom will be a thousand years in the past.

I think a lot of the complaints are just uberfans not getting their pet theories worked out on the screen. Sandor finally got his revenge, but first made sure that his 'little sister' didn't go out with him. A perfect character arc for him, and for Jaime as well. He's done both horrific and noble things, but in the end he was still in love with the sister he had been born with, and to whom he had devoted his entire life. He came back south to either save or die with Cersei, and that's the chance Tyrion gave him, at the risk of likely execution for doing so. And Cersei the Malificent? She lived long enough to see everything she had ever worked for crash and burn around her - pride goeth before the fall. She ended with her 'slightly' younger brother's hands around her neck, and her mouth full of ashes, just as Tyrion had wished on her.

Maybe Ep. 6 will bring it all home in a reasonably satisfactory manner. Here's hoping.

People trying to justify Dany's "madness" is so annoying to me because the writers themselves had the most illogical answer ever when asked why she decided to do a complete 180 and burn King's Landing to the ground let alone how she's acted throughout this season. Their logic is that she's always been crazy because she watched her brother die with a straight face. Did they "kind of forget" that he abused her her entire life, sold her as a slave, and in that scene had literally just threatened to kill her and her unborn child? Sansa walked away after briefly watching Ramsay get eaten alive by his hounds with a smile on her face. Is she crazy? No. Not being upset by the fact that your abuser is dead being viewed as a sign of "madness" is the most disgusting message and reasoning they could have come up with. Not to mention the fact that they contradicted themselves in prior commentary that Dany has the Targaryen ruthlessness but that, and I quote, is "one of the good Targaryens." People also like to justify her "madness" because she's executed people. Literally every leader on this show has executed someone. Jon executed a man crying and begging for his life as well as a literal child (they both deserved it). Stannis burned innocent people because he put all of his faith in Melisandre (and he still managed to have a huge fan following until he burned his own daughter alive). Ned Stark has executed people. Robert Baratheon has executed people and is responsible for the end of the Targaryen dynasty, involving innocent women and children (remember Oberyn's sister and her children?). Daenerys has executed people. People that have done evil things (there are no "innocent" slave masters they literally view people as property), people that have fought against her in combat (this is...a war which people conveniently forget to include while explaining how "the seeds have been planted" (they haven't...the OPPOSITE has been said throughout the entire show as many characters including Dany herself have said that she is NOT her father) when literally every other leader has killed people in combat. She has executed people for betraying her and for refusing to bend the knee...something that every other leader on this show has done or would do when faced with a situation like that. The only difference is that due to her gentle heart she gives second chances. Jorah returned multiple times despite being banished under threat of death upon returning to the city and she gave everyone who had JUST BEEN TRYING TO KILL HER a chance to join her and become her allies. I also despise the argument that her "advisors kept her in check." That is some sexist bullshit. Every leader has advisors, and some of them (Daario, Olenna, Yara, and Ellaria) encouraged her to be MORE ruthless but she was unwilling to risk killing or harming innocents. Yes she had Jorah, Missandei, Ser Barristan, and Tyrion who advised against extreme action but that is why every leader has advisors. She has listened to all of them consistently throughout the show. Also, her "extreme action" is based fundamentally on her own moral code and idea of justice. Remember that she was abused, sold into slavery, and raped repeatedly. She knows what brutality is. She has experienced it and her ruthlessness is rooted in trying to prevent others from enduring what she endured. As for those citing the books, they have also given no indication that she is going to burn King's Landing to the ground. Yes, Daenerys is my favorite fictional character of all time so I am defending her. This is such an insult to her character and to Emilia Clarke. Look up Emilia's reactions to the writing this season. She has played this character for years and was completely blindsided by the script. Actually, most of the cast seems to hate this season. I don't blame them. They've butchered most if not all of the characters. They did another insane 180 with Jaime that made no sense, reduced Jon Snow to an extra, made Sansa extremely unlikeable when her prior ruthlessness came from a good place, they made Tyrion look like an idiot, and they decided that a spymaster like Varys would have a long walk on the beach in the middle of the day talking about treason. I feel so bad for the cast. They've all done an incredible job and it's disgusting for their hard work to be destroyed like this. D&D are incompetent writers. That is all.

People last season were complaining that the series was becoming predictable but you can’t say as much for this season. The story is still very strong and the writers are doing a pretty good job of paying off some hints, prophecies and visions planted earlier in the series. One thought I had about the The Bells was how Daenerys’ attack turned the once confident and powerful Cersei, a woman who not so long ago, was willing to “burn cities to the ground” (or at least Septs) into a “frightened little girl”, in her final moments. This is interesting as Daenery’s story BEGAN, as Cersei’s ENDED. Remember when Dany was that frightened little girl? I thought that was a clever reversal of roles

But sure, she was "so angered by seeing the Red Keep" that she took out the entire area, and every innocent she could find.  It's just bad writing.  There are easy ways to fix this.  What if she figured she'd go with "no quarter" the moment she saw the Red Keep, and went mad, and then immediately took out the bells?  In other words "I won't LET you surrender.  There is no hope for you."  The waiting like she did is, again, poor writing.  Jaime's loss of his morality in that last scene was disappointing.  I don't mind them humanizing Cersei at the end, or even just killing them with rubble, but he wasn't Jaime in the end.

As a strange side note, I was actually far more interested in why Drogon hesitated when killing Varys.  I like to think (and I know the show won't flesh this out) that Drogon is himself developing a cruel streak.  Dragons are highly intelligent creatures.  He has been used as a weapon almost since the beginning, undergone kidnappings, attacks, etc., and is bonded to his "mother" that is now utterly insane and cruel.  Again, I don't think they'll do anything with this on the show, but it's my own thought on it.

Usually (especially in the event of major ptsd I.e. all of her close friends dying or betraying her in a very short amount of time) it happens very quickly. They’ve always shown that she’s been mad since literally season one. She’s smilies every time she burns someone alive or executes people. All of her ruthless decisions were made without her advisors, and she literally said she wouldn’t have a problem taking the iron throne with fire and blood. She’s always been the mad queen, when your entire life is devoted to taking back the iron throne you’ve got to imagine that must’ve twisted her world view a bit.
